Read-only creation guide

Make your pet locally first

This public canary provides creation and preparation guidance only. It does not upload files, submit pets, create requests, or publish assets; those capabilities remain under separate security acceptance.

  1. 1Check your local creation tools

If your current Codex build offers the Hatch Pet skill, install it from Skills and follow the installed version's instructions. Commands and settings may change between client releases.

  2. 2Create in Codex

Describe an original character through the skill; supported versions can start with /pet. A specific, focused concept that does not depend on a third-party character is easier to animate consistently.

  3. 3Preview only as a local free pet

Preview it through the entry point supported by your Codex version. ~/.codex/pets/<name> is a plaintext, copyable compatibility directory for free pets and must never contain future paid assets.

  4. 4Keep release-preparation records

Keep pet.json, the spritesheet, reproducible source files, and rights evidence. Submission is not open, so do not upload files to this canary.

Check rights and safety before publication

  • Prepare only characters and assets you created or have explicit commercial permission to use.
  • The Petdex MIT source license does not make community fan art commercially sellable.
  • Never place secrets, account details, customer data, or private download URLs in a pet package.
  • Free assets may be distributed in plaintext; paid assets must later use signed native delivery and encryption.

Uploads, submissions, and requests are not open

This page has no upload form and performs no Pet API write. Creator submission, pet requests, moderation, and publication will open only after account, private-quarantine, and rights-review acceptance.
